St. Thomas senior forward Maddy Fiedler was named MIAC Women’s Hockey Athlete of the Week last Monday after producing six points in four games.
After six postponements for women’s hockey this season, Fiedler has jumped out to a quick start, finding the net in five out of six games and leading the Tommies in points.
“It definitely means a lot,” Fiedler said. “It’s well-deserved when you work hard, and it’s nice to see that you are noticed out there, not just from your team but from outsiders as well.”
In the first five games of the season, Fiedler has put a point on the board for the Tommies with either an assist or a goal, adding to her record of 81 points in 84 games.
“It’s my senior year, so you have to go out there and work as hard as you can and not take anything for granted,” Fiedler said.
Fiedler has accumulated an impressive scoring record of 28 goals as a Tommie, adding two goals and five assists this season.
“Last year didn’t end as planned, so this year we are playing every game like it could be our last,” said Fiedler.
Fiedler hopes her team can set the tone for the transition to Division I athletics and have a good reputation on their backs.
“The goal is to lead by example for upcoming seasons,” Fiedler said. “We’ve been going really strong, but when you get shut down and try to come back, it’s tough to get back out there.”
