Students make Chinese dumplings for ‘Livin’ in Color’ week

The unique smells of Asian cuisine filled Scooter’s Thursday night, as the Globally Minded Student Association hosted a cooking class for this week’s “Livin’ in Color” event.

The class featured Chinese dumplings, a symbol of good fortune and wealth in the Chinese culture.

Around 30 students gathered to learn how to make the dumplings. Students ranged in level of experienece.

“I have never had dumplings before,” freshman Mary Ejiofor said.

The instructor provided a short lesson on the traditional preparation of dumplings, and then students had a chance to fill and fold their own.

“I think it was pretty fun because we got a chance to actually make the dumplings,” junior Kin Ho said. “We got to know more about China’s culture and the ingredients they use.”

The students also learned about the significance of dumplings to Chinese culture and the many ways of folding and preparing them.

“It’s good to learn things from different cultures,” freshman Mackenzie Young said.
