The residence hall renovations that began last spring were finished in time for the new and returning students this semester. In addition to the lengthy list of construction projects around campus, parts of the residence halls underwent facelifts to make dorm life a little easier and more comfortable.

Ireland Hall and John Paul II Hall are two of the updated buildings on campus. Ireland Hall now boasts a more comfortable study room in the basement, complete with sofas and common tables. JPII has updated furniture in the common area and a full-size kitchen with new appliances.

Rebecca Peine, JPII hall director, was here when the renovations began.

“The place is much more welcoming and updated now,” Peine said. “Every reaction I have seen has been positive”.

She doesn’t think there will be any problems with students adjusting to the updated areas.

“The old stuff was really outdated,” Peine said. “It will be interesting to see how the space gets used now.”
