Students scavenge for last minute housing

St. Thomas students have started to scavenge for housing during the last weeks of school to find accommodations for the 2012-2013 school year.

“We will have students now come in for the next four months,” Macke said. “They will come in right through the middle to the end of August saying, ‘I forgot to.’”

Each year, students race to get their applications in so they can have their pick of housing. Whether you’re a freshman or a senior, the university has multiple options for your on-campus housing needs. Macke said that Morrison Hall and Flynn Hall are the most popular.

“[They have] nice kitchens and nice living rooms and private bedrooms; they’re newer,” Macke said.

This year, McLain wanted a more space so she turned to the off-campus student housing website to find a place to live and a person to live with.

“Its hooked me up with quite a few girls that need roommates and gotten me quite a few showings as well,” McLain said.

Although off-campus living may sound more glamorous to some, Macke encourages students to never shut the door on the residences available on campus.

“Housing is a living organism; it’s always going back and forth,” Macke said. “Come August, we will still typically be looking for people to fill spaces as people cancel out. So, don’t give up on it, and come in and talk to us. Do your research; do your homework.”
