Study abroad group on Cayman Island uninjured after earthquake

St. Thomas students studying on Grand Cayman Island were not injured after a magnitude-5.8 earthquake hit near the Cayman Islands this morning.

Thomas Hamilton, who is teaching the January Term course “Real Estate Market Analysis and Development Planning,” called the university this morning to report that all 14 members of group were fine after the earthquake.

The 6.2-mile deep quake hit at 9:23 a.m. about 45 miles from George Town, Cayman Islands, according to U.S. Geological Survey.
