After data from the fall 2021 semester showed that 51% of waste on St. Thomas’ campus wasn’t sorted correctly, the university decided to participate in the Campus Race to Zero Waste, a nationwide competition between colleges and universities to see who can have the largest waste reduction from Jan. 30 to March 26.

Election Day: St. Paul residents vote ‘yes’ on trash referendum
Along with electing city council members, Saint Paul residents voted on a garbage referendum to keep or remove Ordinance 18-39.
Eco-friendly trash compactors come to campus
St. Thomas entered into a trial period with Compaction Technologies on April 1, when new trash compactors were placed in the areas that generate the most trash on campus.
