Best of Tommie sports: 2013-2014

TommieMedia sports reporters recall the best of St. Thomas sports during the 2013-2014 school year.

The Tommies finished the season with a 19-3 record in MIAC play and finished the regular season in a tie for second place in the MIAC.

The St. Thomas women’s basketball team saw its season come to a close with a 87-78 loss to Wis.-Whitewater Saturday.

The Tommies overcame poor outside shooting with a dominant defensive performance to advance past the Loras College (19-9) Duhawks.

Women’s basketball coach Ruth Sinn, and guards Jenna Dockter and Kelly Brandenburg join reporter Tom Pitzen in The Locker Room.

The No. 15-ranked St. Thomas women’s basketball team will face Loras College (Iowa) Friday, March 7, in Schoenecker Arena.

Senior leadership led the No. 15-ranked St. Thomas women’s basketball team past St. Mary’s University 71-58.

Forward Elaine Warner’s 18 points and 7 rebounds helped ignite the No. 15-ranked women’s basketball team to a 71-56 victory over Concordia.

Forward Taylor Young contributed 15 points in the win and said it was tough to play a team for the third time in one season.

Forward Taylor Young led the Tommies with 16 points and 7 rebounds in their 90-56 victory over Gustavus Wednesday night.

The St. Thomas men’s and women’s basketball teams traveled to Concordia, while the men’s hockey team took on Gustavus.

Center Maggie Weiers had a game-high 20 points on 50 percent shooting while guard Katie Stone added 13 points for the Tommies.
