ANGOLA, Ind. – First baseman Katie Jo Delisle’s sixth inning, two-RBI double tied the game and ignited a streak of Tommie hits, leading to a 9-5 win over the Trine University Thunder in game one of Super Regionals Friday.
Trine University (14-2 conference, 33-13 overall) took early control of the game by capitalizing on each error St. Thomas (20-2 MIAC, 41-7 overall) made. Tommie third baseman Micaela Trainor had three errors in the game, which led to two Thunder runs.
Trine first baseman Kaylee Fox added to the Thunder’s two-run lead in the fourth inning with the game’s sole home run. It was Fox’s seventh home run in 10 games.
The Tommies, however, didn’t let their sloppy fieldwork define the outcome. After playing offensive catch-up for five innings, the Tommies turned things around with five hits and four runs in the fifth and sixth innings and didn’t look back.
St. Thomas sealed the deal in the seventh inning, scoring four runs on three consecutive hits, bringing their lead to five. St. Thomas pitcher Kiersten Anderson-Glass allowed one run in the bottom of seven, but only gave up six hits overall.
St. Thomas will face Trine again tomorrow at noon with a chance to clinch the series.
