Two members sworn in, 17 clubs funded in Oct. 11 USG meeting

Two members were sworn in, 17 clubs were funded, special election candidates and two guests presented at the Oct. 11 Undergraduate Student Government general council meeting.

USG swore in Larissa Ablutz as the Reserve Officer Training Corps Representative and Paige McLeod as Student Athlete Representative.

Chief Marketing Officer Kymm Martinez presented about St. Thomas’ marketing strategies and objectives for this year. Martinez highlighted the marketing focus on prospective students by revamping enrollment materials and the St. Thomas website.

Amy Gage, director of neighborhood relations, shared her role at St. Thomas and her desire to increase student engagement in developing neighborhood relations.

Ten USG special election candidates running for Macalester Groveland Neighborhood Senator, Senior Class Senator, Junior Class Senator, Legislative Affairs Senator and Residential Senator each presented a short statement regarding the candidate’s qualifications and goals. Afterward, the USG general council voted by paper ballot.

USG general council members will post their personal updates on TommieLink by midnight on Oct. 25.

Funding
USG discussed future funding opportunities for 2018 Kente Summit for Collegiate Black Men, which convenes Minnesotan male college students of African descent to build community across campuses, identities and commonly faced issues, and Green Dot Training for St. Thomas students to learn about bystander intervention.

In internal funding requests, USG finance committee approved a total of $31,151 for 12 clubs:

In campus-wide funding requests, USG approved $862.50 for ASIA Club’s Crazy Rich Asians Showing.

In conference and competition funding requests, USG approved $437 for ANSA’s Battle of the ASAs, $225 for Pre-Law’s St. Paul Trials, $1558 for Pre-Law’s Mock Trial Invite, $1500 for MSA’s MAS-INCA Convention, $812 for Arnold Air Society’s ACRON, $2000 for SHPE’s SHPE National Convention and $312 for Delta Sigma Pi’s LEAD.
