“We’re not looking to simulate the UN,” Misey said, referring to the already-existing student club, Model UN. “We are looking at applying their goals to our own lives and in the community.”

Gen-UN is a program of the United Nations Association of the United States of America, which, according to its website, works “to inform, inspire, and mobilize the American people to support the ideals and vital work of the United Nations.” Misey said she has been involved with UNA-USA since high school and is currently employed there as an intern.

The council voted on and approved the new club.

Vice President of Financial Affairs Jen Gish presented the newest funding requests from clubs for the week. USG now approves budgets on a rolling basis as clubs send in requests.

Two organizations requested funds for campus-wide events. Colleges Against Cancer received $2,534 forRelay for Life. For its “Night with Luke Spehar” event at TommieCatholic, Catholic Students Incorporated received $1,140.

Asian Students in America requested Conference and Competitions funding for its trip to the Midwest American Asian Students Union’s spring conference at the University of Minnesota. USG approved $300 of funding for the event.

For its joint trip to the Reimagining Social Medicine conference at the University of Minnesota, Students for Justice and Peace received $131.25 and the Public Health Club received $243.75.

It was also announced that more than 20 students applied for USG’s Breakfast with the Board event, which in past semesters saw attendance rates in the single digits. USG President Michael Gaytko said that a few seniors were cut to keep the number of students at 20.
