Before the end of the semester, the Undergraduate Student Government will host or sponsor at least eight events, and the council used its Sunday night meeting to solidify some of its plans.
USG President Jenna Johnson said she expects a large student turnout at a yoga event Nov. 22 in Scooter’s. The event is part of USG’s life balance initiative. St. Thomas coaches and the Health and Wellness Center will set up booths at the event to show students how to incorporate healthy choices in their lifestyles.
“We’ll have an hour of free yoga, and we’ll be handing out yoga mats to students who come,” Johnson said. “The only thing USG is paying for is the yoga mats, so we’re really trying to keep student spending dollars at a minimum.”
USG is also involved in International Student Week, which is being held Monday through Friday. International Student Representative Raymond Kindva said some of the week’s activities include: a fashion show, a soccer tournament and the Globally Minded Student Association’s Culture Festival.
The Tommie Takeover Senate Committee also announced plans for its first Tommie Tuesday giveaway. USG will give away hot chocolate tumblers and provide free chocolate fondue Tuesday, Nov. 19 over convocation hour. As part of another giveaway, The committee announced plans to hand out St. Thomas Christmas stockings this winter.
USG also moved to approve the Students for Justice and Peace monetary request that will cover funds for a trip to Georgia for the School of the Americas Watch Conference.
