Linebacker Blake Weber led a stout defensive effort Saturday as St. Thomas took a 34-7 lead over Gustavus at halftime at O’Shaughnessy Stadium.
Weber, who intercepted and returned a pass for a touchdown in the second quarter, was a key component in a strong first half for the Tommies. The unit allowed only 9 yards against the Gusties, who are the MIAC’s third-best total offense.
Linebacker Dylan Andrew added six tackles, including a sack resulting in a 12-yard loss for the Gusties. The defense allowed its lone touchdown to Gustavus wide receiver Josh Kirk after committing three personal fouls on a drive early in the second quarter.
Quarterback Jacques Perra completed 15 of 22 passes for 193 yards and two touchdowns. The unit put up 278 yards and four touchdowns.
Running backs Tucker Trettel and Josh Parks combined for 76 yards on 16 carries and a touchdown.
With a win today, the Tommies will secure at least a share of the MIAC title and an automatic NCAA playoff berth.
