Former St. Thomas football player Andrew McElroy announced his decision to transfer to the Northern Illinois University Huskies on Wednesday, Dec. 13. The announcement came after the wide receiver’s entrance into the transfer portal on Nov. 30.
McElroy announced his transfer on X, formerly known as Twitter.

Northern Illinois University — a Division I school — competes in the West Division of the Mid-American Conference. The team ended the season No. 2 in the division, with a conference record of 5-3.
McElroy had played for the Tommies since the 2021 season and raked up multiple honors and nominations during his time at St. Thomas.
McElroy was named as part of the 2023 Stats Perform FCS Preseason All-America Team. McElroy, who missed two games with an undisclosed injury, led Tommies receivers with 39 catches for 525 yards, plus two touchdowns.
Several other players announced on X they were entering the transfer portal, including first-team All-Conference linebacker Jonathan Bunce (as a graduate transfer) and third-team All-Conference running back Shawn Shipman.
