Helping the community is as easy as casting on and casting off. A group of knitting and crocheting enthusiasts are working together in the Luann Dummer Center for Women to make and eventually donate afghans, scarves and hat sets.

Yarn Tamer member Susan Anderson-Benson said the club is a great opportunity to exercise crafting skills.

“Yarn Tamers does a lot of service work behind the scenes and it’s great for us,” Anderson-Benson said. “Because we are giving back to the community in a way that we know best which is knitting.”

The Yarn Tamers group formed in 2003 with a mission to benefit the community.Yarn Tamer organizer Beth Blonigen said she hopes the women would be able to donate as many afghans as possible.

“Hopefully we’ll get three, four, five, somewhere in there,” Blonigen said. “It looks like we’re in the dozens for the scarves and hat sets, so hopefully we get three dozen there too.”
