The No. 4-ranked St. Thomas women’s hockey team lost to No. 3-ranked Augsburg 3-2 in its final regular-season home game at Saint Thomas Ice Arena Friday night.
The Tommies started the night off by honoring five seniors: Anna Williams, Sarah Moy, Allison Parnell, Rachel Werdin and Isabel Bianchi.
“They’ve had great four year careers,” coach Tom Palkowski said. “I hope we can give them a little bit more hockey down the stretch here. But on the ice, off the ice, in the classroom, and they’ve been awesome”
While battling for the number three seed in the MIAC playoffs, both teams brought extra energy to the game and continued a persistent fight throughout.
Augsburg scored the first and second goals of the night in the first period. Forwards Lanie Lodell and Emily Ach each scored for the Auggies.
The Tommies’ first goal was scored by senior forward Moy with 9:24 left in the second period.
“We came to the game starting together as a team, and it was good to see how the girls were grinding,” Moy said. “You know, it didn’t go our way, but we played 100% out there and that’s all we can ask for.”
The second Tommie goal was scored by junior forward Estee Frantz with 9:32 left in the third period.
The Auggies re-gained their lead, scoring the final point of the game with 23 seconds left in the game.
“We need to play good, solid, competitive hockey,” Palkowski said. “We have a lot of strong moments, but we just need to play our best game tomorrow.”
The Tommies face Augsburg at 4 p.m. Saturday at the Augsburg Ice Arena for the final game of the regular season.
