The St. Thomas women’s hockey team (2-2-1) tied St. Ben’s (0-3-2) 1-1 in overtime Friday night at home.

“It was definitely not the Tommies’ best game, but we shot and took a lot of chances,” senior Katie Psimos said.

St. Thomas junior Meghan Parker scored an unassisted goal at the end of the first period, and St. Ben’s sophomore Linnea Chruscielski scored an unassisted goal in the middle of the second period.

The Tommies had 32 shots on Blazers goalkeeper Abbie Helminen but couldn’t place the puck in the net to score another goal.

“Our strengths this game were power plays and penalty kills,” Psimos said. “We also had a lot more shots on goal than usual.”

St. Thomas freshman Alise Riedel had 22 saves for the team.

The Tommies travel to St. Cloud Saturday to play St. Ben’s again, and Psimos said she knows the team can bury the puck.

“We need to go out and play Tommie hockey: passing plays, stick-on-stick, tape-on-tape hockey,” Psimos said.
